S3 E7: Smells Like Money Podcast: Taking Care of Operators Who Get Around TUIT

Tom Mong is the Operations Supervisor for the city of Jerome, Idaho. Within the first year in the position he helped his team in many different ways. On the admin side he prepared both the 2019 and 2020 yearly budget for their site laboratory. He also chased down numbers on their chemical spending; they made changes and are now reaping the benefit. On the operations side of things he works with an amazing team and together they’ve addressed many issues and completed small yet key projects as a crew to improve the plant’s efficiency.

Tom talks about the federal and state regulations that require municipal WWTP to have properly trained employees and operators that are licensed. Every state is different; some don’t even allow you to have an operator alone at a facility unless he/she possesses a license. Tom shares how he and few other members of his team have taken it upon themselves to offer help to new employees to study, train and ask questions to help them be prepared for licensing exams and the benefits of doing so for their operation.
