Thank you to everyone who took the time to attend one of my presentations on Education Day 2015 at this year’s WWETT show (formerly the Pumper & Cleaner Environmental Expo). All three of the sessions were well attended and audience participation and interest was noteworthy. We hope all of you were able to take away something you can start implementing into your businesses right away to improve your marketing success.
In follow up to our third presentation on content marketing, I wanted to revisit this topic here because there was just so much info to cover in that short hour of time, it just felt right to go into a bit more detail and let everyone know how much we think this format for marketing is going to be essential as time goes on.
Consider this, in the not too distant future, instead of pitching your products or services, you will be delivering information that will make your prospective client smarter (remember the phases of the buying cycle?) The bottom line about content marketing is that if we consistently deliver valuable information to our buyers and customers, they will be more likely to purchase from us, return again and again and become a great referral source.
You may be asking yourself why you need to understand this and how to get started. Here’s some things to consider:
Joe Pulizzi of the Content Marketing Institute puts it simply: Consumers have simply shut off the traditional world of marketing. They own a DVR to skip television advertising, often ignore magazine advertising, and now have become so adept at online “surfing” that they can take in online information without a care for banners or buttons (making them irrelevant). Smart marketers understand that traditional marketing is becoming less and less effective by the minute, and that there has to be a better way. Thought leaders and marketing experts from around the world, including the likes of Seth Godin and hundreds of the leading thinkers in marketing, have concluded that content marketing isn’t just the future, it’s the present (see the video above on the history of content marketing).
